Grandparents Rights refers to the legal right of grandparents to step in to care for their grandchildren because the parents are absent or otherwise unable to care for their children.

If the parents are able, but the grandparents have had a significant place in a child's life and cutting off access would harm the child, courts may consider enforcing the right of a grandparent to continue to be in a child's life against the parent's wishes, but this is rare.
