Chia Seeds How Much to Eat Per Day

Chia Seeds How Much to Eat Per Day?

Recommended amounts of chia seeds how much to eat per day vary from about three-quarters of a tablespoon (10 grams or one ounce) to two tablespoons (15 grams), according to the livestrong and Dr. Oz sites.

You can eat about a tablespoon of chia seeds a day and fall comfortably within these guidelines.

When I was growing up,  you put chia seeds on Chia pets. You didn’t eat them.

But, in 2009, they were popularized as an energy booster by Christopher McDougall in his bestselling book, Born to Run.

Word soon spread that if chia seeds were good for Aztec marathon runners, they could be good for Wall Street traders.

Flax seeds have, for the last ten years or so, been regarded as a highly nutritious food.

But, they can turn rancid in a short period of time and have to be ground just before eating to release many of their nutrients.

By contrast, chia seeds can be stored for four or five years without turning rancid and eaten as they are, without grinding them up.

Dr. Oz  promotes chia seeds for their role in weight loss, healthy bones and skin and heart health. recommends them for their anti-cancer properties.

Chia seeds have more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and more antioxidents than blueberries.

They are high in protein and fiber and low in calories.

How Do You Use Them?

You can eat them raw, like nuts.

You can spread them on salads or cereals, include them in smoothies, or mix them up with fruit juice, as Dr. Oz does in this recipe with pomegranate juice.

When mixed with liquid, they expand to 12 times their original volume and become a gel.

Thus, you can make a kind of porridge with just chia seeds and fruit juice.

You can add them to liquid and drink it.

You can grind them and include them with flour for bread.

You can sprout them, just like alfalfa sprouts, and use them in salads or sandwiches.

The sprouts are what grow on the Chia Pet. And, now we’re eating them.

So, the answer to the question – chia seeds how much to eat per day – is about a tablespoon per day.
